TikTok Policy & Common Violations

Are you looking to advertise your brand on TikTok? Then you need to know the platform’s advertising policies and common violations. Like any other platform, TikTok has its own policies and guidelines which are designed to ensure that advertisements are appropriate, safe and engaging for the audience, and violating these policies could result in your ads being removed or your account being suspended.

During the TikTok Ads review process, Tiktok takes in to consideration the eligibility of the promoted product or services, this includes ad creatives,  caption or text, images or visual content, audio content, any other content that forms part of the af creative that would be published to target audience. 

Here are some advertising policies:

  • Ad creatives must not direct users to a non-functional landing page
  • Ad creatives & landing page must not display prohibited products or services
  • E-commerce ads must display complete and accurate information on tha landing page
  • Congruence between ad creative and the landing page: The ad creatives need to be consistent with the promoted product or service in the landing, including the ad caption, ad text, ad image, ad videos and ad CTA.

To make sure your ads don’t get taken down, here are some violations to avoid:

  • Misleading Content: Don’t make false claims or use deceptive advertising in your ads.
  • Inappropriate Content: Keep it clean! Avoid nudity, vulgar language, and sexually suggestive content.
  • Intellectual Property: Respect intellectual property laws and avoid violating copyright and trademark laws.
  • Illegal Products or Services: Steer clear of ads promoting illegal or services like drugs, firearms, or counterfeit goods, 
  • Health Claims: Be careful with health claims in your ads. Avoid unsubstantiated claims or promoting unapproved medical treatments or products
  • Scams and Fraudulent Activity: Don’t promote scams or fraudulent activities like fake giveaways or pyramid schemes.
  • Political Advertisements: Follow TikTok’s guidelines for political advertising, including disclosing who is paying for the ad and adhering to local laws and regulations.

Understanding TikTok’s policies is essential for brands that want to advertise effectively and responsibly on the platform. By adhering to these guidelines, you’ll be able to create ads that are not only engaging but also safe and appropriate for TikTok’s diverse audience, while avoiding any negative consequences or damage to your reputation.
